On Tues 1st March, a mixture of Yr 7 and 8 avid readers caught the train to Alleyn’s for an experience they’d never forget: bodyguard training. The students had come to see children’s author Chris Bradford talk about his books. He described how he is ‘method writer’, someone who trains in the job of his main character. As such, he has had samurai training (for his books about a young Samurai) and bodyguard training for his Bodyguard series about teenagers who become part of the security team for a high-profile celeb. At the talk, our students found out all about the business of body guarding and how Bradford puts his books together. There was even time for some demonstrations of guard formations in different scenarios, how to stay alert in a crowd and how to fend off an enthusiastic fan. At the end of a gripping hour and half, students had the chance to buy books and chat to the man himself. A great experience all round!
