House System

Our House System is used in the school to promote achievement of the students in its widest forms in a totally positive way, from the classroom to the sports field and helping out around the school to drama productions.

Our House System is based around six houses that are all linked to the Salesian Religious Order – this is the charism followed by students at St Michael’s Catholic College. The patrons chosen are either Saints or Blessed.

In 2021, with the increased numbers of students at the school due to moving to a 6 form entry our student council and student parliament groups researched and decided on the newest house patron, Blessed Alexandrina Maria DaCosta and chose purple as the colour of the house.

The House System is vertical, incorporating one form per year for each house and mixed groups of students from the sixth form. Competitions range from quizzes, debates, sporting events, department events and sports day. Each House will also have the opportunity to raise money for a dedicated charity and invite guest speakers into the college to learn how their money raised helps make a difference to those it goes to.

As well as this all students collect house points for achievement in many different aspects of the college. Students house points are totalled and running totals are announced each week the college student notices for pupils to keep track. Students that enter house competitions are celebrated in the students notices and at house assemblies to encourage others and show participation in college activities – linked to the Salesian way of life.
