Feedback to students has an influential impact on their achievement and progress. Effective marking allows students to become evaluators of their own learning and therefore developing their knowledge, reinforces a positive attitude towards learning, secures key skills needed and therefore allows students to exceed expectations. It also allows teachers to reflect on the progress the students have made, thus informing their planning. Effective marking as a tool of assessment can move students on to the next phase of their learning, creating an opportunity for an individual dialogue with every student, through the form of formative or summative assessment.
