Southwark SSLP Street Photography Competition

page

Congratulations to our year 7 pupil Caspar Glemser (7G) and our art teacher Mr Lomax who both achieved first prize in their respected categories for this month’s SSLP Street Photography competition.  Students and staff from schools across Southwark were invited to participate in this five-month photography competition. Each month they are set a challenge by the SSLP resident Street Photographer and are judged by an expert panel. The theme for November was ‘Stairway’ – ‘set(s) of steps or stairs and its surrounding walls or structure’.

On Caspars winning entry judges stated that his photo was A well composed and impacting photograph.  Good depth of field draws the viewer into the scene and beyond that into the human story.  The contrast of light and dark gives dramatic emphasis to the poignancy of the situation for the wheelchair user.  It speaks a thousand words in one single photographic statement.  A very deserving winning entry.”

About Mr Lomax’s photo judges said This is a striking image.  By its composition it poses a geometric puzzle.  It’s visual design draws you in and evokes a sense of vulnerability suggesting the viewer is leaning over, looking down and has the potential to fall through the stair well.  A highly deserving ‘Best of Bunch’.”

The theme for December is ‘Outside Looking In: Inside Looking Out’ so we look forward at seeing the latest entries.
