Recently scientists at St Michael’s Sixth Form have been lucky enough to work closely with King’s College, London on Neuro-biological research. In workshops organised by the university we investigated how different parts of the brain function and the different resources needed to carry out key experiments. These sessions were exhilarating in the sense that we were able to used sophisticated equipment that is not available in school, making the research experience very realistic. As well as this, the sessions were very interactive, getting us to do role play, or play learning games when working with neurone cells to help understand how neurones worked. At the end of these four workshops an amazing opportunity was presented to us allowing us to work as a research scientists for 2-3 weeks in the labs of King’s College. This is definitely an opportunity that I intend to take up this summer.
