The Honours Pathway at the sixth from in St. Michael’s provides the opportunity for additional curriculum and enrichment opportunities as well as a dedicated Russell Group/ Oxbridge preparation programme. Students are required to achieve 4 or more A* (8/9) grades at GCSE to qualify.
Students on this pathway may also compete for Academic Scholarships to the value of £500. Three academic scholarships in STEM, Humanities and Creative Media are funded by The Prudential, our business partner. The CEO of Prudential, John Foley, is a former student of St. Michael’s. There is also an award for Sports Excellence- and we have some very high performing sportswomen and men, including Maria Papworth, who recently finished fourth in an Olympic Diving event in Buenos Aires- and a prize for IT Genius.
With recruitment to The Honours Pathway in 2019 in mind we would very much value the opportunity to meet those students capable of achieving 4 or more A* (8/9) grades and entering our Honours Pathway/ competing for our Academic Scholarships. We will be hosting an event on Monday 7th January 2019 for these current Year 11 students. The Honours Pathway Recruitment Event at St. Michael’s will run as follows:

The purpose of this day for potential Honours students is to showcase St. Michael’s outstanding teaching through the provision of a number of university-style 75 minute-long classes delivered by co-teachers in two subjects (see timetable choices below). Students pick one session in each column, experiencing four subjects in total and at a very high level.
Both breakfast and lunch will be provided for students.
Attending the event also allows prospective Honours students the chance to meet other students and to work with them, getting a sense of the strength of this cohort.
After lunch, students will be talked through testing for Oxford and Cambridge and will engage in a range of individual and group problem-solving activities.

The invitation to apply for this event is open to students from St. Michael’s and from all our feeder schools. Last year, students from 17 different schools joined the sixth form here.
Students from St. Michael’s and also from St. Ursula’s, St. Thomas More and Bonus Pastor will be invited to attend based on their most GCSE recent grade predictions. In the case of St. Ursula’s, St. Thomas More and Bonus Pastor, invitations will come through the students’ own Heads of Year.
Individual applications will require an authentication form the student’s Head of Year.

Year 12: Deputy Head Girl Toni Iheonye gained seven grade 9s at GSCE and is the founder of The St. Michael’s Debating Society. As an Honours student, she will contend for the John Foley STEM scholarship and next year, for Cambridge. A semi-pro footballer and coach, OJ Senessie will compete for The Sports Excellence award. OJ is exploring the potential for soccer scholarship at an Ivy League US university.
